on another note, i just read the papers about the idiot scholar who made racist remarks. its not the fact that he is racist that bothers me, its the fact that he is a PSC scholar, headed for the upper echelons of our “gahmen” service, and was stupid enough to publish his views on a public medium. i’m sure this raises many issues of privacy. but hey, you’re a future civil servant, so come transparent please. i say revoke his bloody scholarship. hahha.. this “uncle” made a really scary forum letter statement the other day in ST. i think he said they should revoke his scholarship and throw him off his high horse and let everyone look down on him to let him learn a lesson. if this idiot scholar was any man on the street i would say “have some mercy” or “give him a break”, but he’s a PSC scholar, taking public money for his stupid education, so i say slice off his balls and let him be a eunuch. you heard me, slice it off. let him feel some discrimination.

i won’t condemn him for his act, cuz someone great (hint: he died on a cross) once said:

let he who is free from sin cast the first stone

or something to that effect, i’m quite sure 98% of us will not be throwing anything anywhere. so get off your moral high horse. its a more deep-rooted problem than anyone would care to admit it is. it stems from our upbringing, the development of our society, the conditions and environment that our predecessors (parents etc) went through. can we change it? sure. immediately? no. educate educate educate. having racial harmony day is a start. but not enough. look at the ratio of chinese to malay to indian to “others” (haha… my favorite category). can we seriously say we can expose everyone to everyone else? nope. we just have to make sure that we imbue respect, tolerance and open-mindedness to the people around us, and hopefully, they will pass it on. equipped with the right mentality, it can be done.

discrimination exists. its not good. we don’t have to live with it. but we can’t impose our views on everyone (unless you’re hitler, or… ahem) so educate your children. educate your friends. make the world a better place. and slice off the scholar’s nuts.

happy new year!

The past day and a half has been simply gorgeous. Grey overcast skies, occasional dribbles of rain, gentle (and not so gentle) breezes into my room and just generally cool cool air tickling my toes. yes, for once i am happy with the singapore weather.

why can’t we have more of this. enough of the searing heat . gimme gloomy cold dark days.

I was quite taken aback when i read about all the changes that the govt intends to put in place for the chinese curriculum. I think they need to step back and stop the chinese train. cuz the english train has been left behind. hell. its still stuck at the at the boon lay station (pardon my pathetic attempt at an analogy). Cuz i think not enough attention has been paid to the english language. After reading essays from undergrads who are supposedly in the 18th-ranked college in the world, i want to shove my head in the toilet bowl, flush it and cry. In their rush to bilingual heaven, they have forgotten about the basics. Language and grammatical structure are no longer taught in schools. Students are supposedly able to learned (sic) more by just reading. BULLSHIT. hell. COCKSHIT. I have final year undergrads who can wrote (sic) past and present tense in the same sentence.

hell. i know you have ideas. but you can’t communicate your ideas through bad english. i know i know. you’re probably thinking i’m an english elitist. hahhaa.. i don’t care. i speak chinese just as well. and a smattering of bahasa indonesia, a tad bit of french and enough hokkien to curse your mother and order a plate of char kway teow. i’m not boasting you know.

i digress.

the point is, i think they should rethink the whole language affair. Something has to be done to cater to (1) strong english speakers, (2) strong chinese speakers and (3) strong bilingual speakers etc. they shouldn’t fuck up a strong english speaker, make them go for chinese camp, and basically make them go through a traumatic school life just because they can’t speak chinese! instead hone their language abilities and get them to be even stronger. make them minor in chinese or something. don’t make it a full requisite!

I can’t take bad english. so call me an elitist. yew kan goe to hal.

for those who are wondering what i have been upto. well, the past few months have been really busy! firstly, i’ve moved! 26 years of junk have come to haunt me. but i’m glad thats over. my new room is a vast improvement from my old one and it has pleasured me for 2 weeks so far. work has been tough. this semester has been quite hectic due to my teaching duties and i have just finished marking term papers… whew! i’m glad that’s over!

Now, its time to grind out my thesis. urgh. 3 title changes later, i have finally confirmed my title and have churned out 10 pages of single spaced crap. i need help. hahhaha..

my thesis is confirmed as:
New media and its impact on long distance family communication – the singapore perspective

so if anyone knows of any people who have long distance families and use new media to communicate, hunt them down and pass me their contacts. I will plant bugs and listening devices in their devices. don’t tell them please.

tonight, i just ran my first 2.4km run in 5 years. god its been a looooong time. i almost fainted. 16 mins+, not too bad… hahha.. considering i’m 20kg heavier!

ok, i need to shower now. this stickiness is unbearable.

What is wrong with the bloody weather?! its too blooooody hot hot hot hot hot hot!

Went to the range and hit close to 300 balls yesterday. my body is protesting today. delayed reaction but painful nonetheless. had to practise cuz i haven’t been playing for almost a month! and tomorrow i’m going to down to batam for a game, so can’t possibly make a fool of myself.

in the evening, i had some great indian food at wilma’s place! her little brother is so so so cuuuute..

anyway, back to boring life, time to do some work.. urgh.

after countless comment spams and 3 months later.. i have finally decided come back and pollute cyberworld with my nonsense. nonsense. nonsense. and more nonsense.

life has been busy the past few months. busy busy busy. many things to do @ work @ home etc. and for those who do not know yet, i have moved house. yes. 30 boxes later, and i am still here. muahhaha.. i like my new place, gives me more of a view than my previous one. the last one had a view of the walls, at least now i get to see greenery and other houses. woohoo.. you can’t imagine how different it is to get fresh air blowing into your room. aaah…

so how has everyone been? well, i’ll give you a month to leave a comment. since i haven’t been actively posting for quite awhile. nevermind. i’ll just post for my own pleasure. i.e. i’ll just pleasure myself. muahhaha..

after fixing my table and stuff in the room, i am finally able to start work again. work is that long long overdue.. shucks..

ok, enough for now, i need to take a showerrrrr….
